ABOUT ABOUT

And Justice for All? The Philly Story

Ferguson.  Tamir Rice.  Freddie Gray. Philando Castile.  "I can't breathe."  Black Lives Matter.   Few issues have riveted national attention more in recent years than the series of cases where police officers killed African-Americans during encounters, which have raised deeper questions about structural racism in criminal justice.  Philadelphia, a majority-minority city with significant crime problems, has not been spared these issues.  At the Sunday Breakfast Club's December meeting, the city's police commissioner, Richard Ross, will join us to discuss the tightrope he walks as an African-American leading the police force.  Also invited to take part is Larry Krasner, the civil rights attorney with a long history of battling the city police department over its tactics who was just elected district attorney.   He's expected to let us know shortly whether he'll participate.  Join us for this vital discussion at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 7, at the Union League. If you have topics or questions you'd like to see discussed, send them in advance to Chris Satullo at [email protected]
